Residents in the North areas of Bridlington, including parts of the Old Town and the villages of Buckton, Bempton, areas of Flamborough, Grindale, Burton Fleming, Speeton and Reighton, have seen their phone signal completely disappear or become intermittent on the o2 mobile network.
This has resulted in customers being unable to make calls, listen to voicemails, complete verification and secure processes or access text messages.

The o2 network also provides services for Tesco Mobile, Sky Mobile, giffgaff, Lycamobile.
In an automated message on the o2 website, a statement reads:
‘Sorry, a phone mast close to you isn’t working.
Looks like a phone mast near to you isn’t working as it should, sorry. Our engineers are on the case and making progress but your service might come and go until we fix it. We’ll update you by Monday 28th November 2022.’

On previous views of the status of the network it stated that the update would be teady for the 22nd November.
One resident who spoke to the Echo said: “It must have been like this for over a week and I simply can’t use my phone for any calls or messages – a day or two is understandable, but it’s getting frustrating now.”
Another lady who contacted the Echo said: “I received a response from Tesco Mobile stating that engineers were working on the issue round the clock and the service would return soon and be far better.”

Asked if the outage had caused any inconvenience, she said: “I am unable to access my works computer remotely as I need a code sent by text to my phone so I can’t do any of my work from home – this is a real inconvenience.”
It is understood the phone mast in question is the structure on Scarborough Road between Bridlington and the Grindale/ Bempton crossroads.
Engineers were seen working there on Friday 18th November as signs that work was in progress were in place at the base of the mast.

The response from Tesco mobile was: “…we are not able to guarantee a fault-free service. From time to time a fault may occur or the engineers may need to complete work to maintain the network for the future. This may mean service can come and go whilst work is completed.”
The o2 company have been contacted for comment but does not appear to have a dedicated press office dealing with this type of issue. All enquires are conducted on automated chat which could not answer the relevant questions put to them.
