The East Riding’s household waste recycling sites have recorded their highest ever recycling rates.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council have said more is being recycled, reused or composted at all 10 sites than ever before – and that’s all thanks to residents sorting their bags of waste.
Visitors are encouraged to pre-sort their mixed waste before arriving or visit a bag sorting table on site so more items can be placed in the right recycling skips and less go into general waste.

Rates have increased at all sites this year. The recycling figure for Bridlington for June 2023 was 79.21% compared with 76.31% last year.
Councillor Paul West, the council’s portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “The recycling rates being recorded go far beyond what we expected.

“I want to thank to people in the East Riding for supporting our bag sorting scheme. It has worked fantastically well and helped us to recycle and reuse more than ever.
“Please keep up the good work as this proves why we’re still one of the top recycling areas in the country.”

Items that can’t be recycled, reused or composted by the sites are sent for energy recovery at energy-from-waste plants.
