Brand new state-of-the-art Matrix gym equipment will be installed in the centre, including an ascent trainer, glute trainer and leg presses. The gym will also be redecorated.

The gym will be closed from 6pm on Sunday 1 September and is due to reopen at 8.30am on Saturday 7 September.

The rest of East Riding Leisure Hornsea – including the pool and sports hall – and Hornsea Hub will remain open as normal. They are run by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

There will also be extra fitness classes running during the closure. These can be viewed and booked online.

Members are also free to use gyms at any other East Riding Leisure centre, as part of their membership.

Councillor Nick Coultish, the council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Thank you to gym members for bearing with us while we carry out this redevelopment.

“This will only be a short closure, and when the gym reopens members will be able to use top-of-the-range fitness equipment that will be some of the best available in the area.

“Just to stress, the rest of the leisure centre and Hornsea Hub will still be open as normal for the community to use.”

Councillor Barbara Jefferson, the council’s cabinet member for heritage and coastal, said: “I’m really pleased this is another fantastic investment by the council which will benefit people in the Hornsea area.”

The redevelopment was due to be carried out in August but had to be postponed due to a delay in the delivery of the gym equipment.
