Over 50 families, single parents and the elderly have benefitted from a fantastic scheme organised by New Pasture Lane Community Centre that will give many local residents a Christmas to remember.
After being awarded a grant by ERYC to help with the Food Pantry within the Community Centre on the estate, managers Kate Batten and Abi Sturdy decided to go further.

“We wanted to stretch the grant further and create luxury hampers for people to help with the cost of living crisis.” explained Abi.
“We have now distributed the hampers to over 50 different families, single parents and the elderly on and near to the NPL estate.

“Food came from Bridlington Tesco – thanks to manager Philip Hasselby – and his amazing staff. Lyndsay from Real Aid helped with her trusty van to collect and distribute the food.
“Special mention must go to two locally-based family businesses – Richard Binsley from Smiths Butchers who supplied 50 mini meat hampers and Yvonne Hewitt from Flowers by Yvonne, who kindly supplied us with vegetable packs to accompany the meat.” added Abi.

Five volunteers also gave up their time and helped with wrapping the hamper boxes, packing them and also setting up the pantry for the festive season.
