Eyes, cameras an telescopes will be looking to the skies tonight as there is another chance of a unique light show above the East Yorkshire Coast tonight (18 September).

Photographer Paul Mortz captured these stunning images recently.
“I am regulary at Bempton and Flamborough (at least once a week) doing Aurora photography and I drive over from York most evenings as the view north to the Arctic is over the sea and not land which means there is no land mass or light pollution between Flamborough and the North Pole. We get a perfect dark sky view of the Aurora from there.

“There is only about 5 places on the East coast of the UK where that is possible and Flamborough is one of them.” added Paul.
The phenomenon of the Northern Lights also known as aurora borealis dancing through the skies is a sight to behold and is occasionally visible from our area.

Aurora Watch U.K. are indicating that there could be a good chance of a vivid light show being visible across many parts of East Yorkshire, especially in the areas with the least light pollution such as the Flamborough Headland.

To make sure that you have reasonable chance of seeing the lights visit AuroraWatchUK which indicates when the lights are most likely to be seen in the UK.
