A new club that opened last month in Bridlington has proved so popular it has had to move to a larger meeting place to cater for all the new members.
The Bridlington MASH club (Military Assistance and Social Hub) was created after the closure of the Poppy Club at Alderson House which created a gap in the community for the Veterans and their families accessing social activities and support.
Due to the popularity of the launch, the group has had to relocate to a bigger venue at Bridlington Town Football club. The group will still meet every Tuesday between 1:30 to 4:30pm.
Organiser Michelle Leach said: “With the support of ERYC and ERVAS it has been possible to establish a new group that will enable a weekly social gathering for former and new members. We would welcome any support from local businesses and community.”
Veteran Mike Rubery said: “It’s very much appreciated after the loss of the Poppy Club. The new hub provides a place for Veterans and their families to gather once a week for friendship and companionship. Although we have a relationship with the local branch of the RBL it would have been nice for some input from central HQ of the RBL who ran the Poppy club but they seem to have abandoned the socially isolated and more the ’mature’ veteran to fend for themselves – something I never thought the RBL would do as we make up the core membership who stand year after year raising funds for the Poppy appeal.”
