Residents in Burton Fleming are still on flood alert after further heavy rain has seen the Gypsey Race rise to extremely high levels.
The village of Rudston, which is around two miles away, has also seen the water levels rise rapidly, leaving the footbridge to the sports field almost underwater.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council stated earlier in the week:
“Regarding the risk of flooding in the village, our emergency team will continue to keep a close eye on the situation over the Christmas period and is on standby and ready to respond if necessary.”
They have also stated that water levels in the Gypsey Race are being monitored.
Meanwhile organisers of the annual Burton Fleming Duck Race have confirmed that the popular event will be going ahead tomorrow (New Year’s Day – 1st January, 2024 – at 1.30pm.
The event is being organised by Burton Fleming Playground, and the group have sold over 350 ducks to press.
The race starts at the bridge over Gypsey Race on the Countryside Walk in Burton Fleming and finishes in the area known as Roaring Hole.
Ducks are priced at £2 each.
