Sewerby Hall and Gardens will officially open its highly anticipated Winter Woodland event tonight (5 December), unveiling this year’s enchanting theme: The Snowman’s Ball. Visitors are set to wander through the illuminated grounds as preparations unfold for the Snowman’s biggest celebration of the year.
The popular festive trail will once again feature Candy Cane Lane, the giant bauble, and the ever-popular light tunnel, all returning with refreshed displays. The Pleasure Gardens will host a continuous interactive light show, complete with a brand-new adventure theme and the chance to meet cheerful characters along the route, including the Woodcutter, the Snow Fairy, and the beloved Sewerby Snowman.
New for 2025, a festive snow globe will be installed in the Pleasure Gardens, offering visitors a unique seasonal experience for a small additional charge.
Inside the house, a new exhibition titled The Snowman: International Icon of Winter explores the surprising history of the snowman — from medieval manuscripts and historic festivals to its rise in modern pop culture and advertising. A festive trail and children’s activities will complement the exhibition throughout the season.
Food and drink will be available until 9pm, with offerings from the Clock Tower Café, Stables Pizza Company, Greek Treat and Peaky Grinders, alongside a licensed bar in the courtyard marquee provided by Louisianna Bars. Visitors can also enjoy warm refreshments and toasted marshmallows along the route.
Organisers say this year’s Winter Woodland promises “an event like no other”, inviting families to be part of the Snowman’s magical preparations on the clifftops of Sewerby.
The event runs until Tuesday 23 December.
