Two young Bridlington girls are lacing up their trainers and taking on a remarkable running challenge to raise money for Cats Protection – one of the UK’s leading animal welfare charities.
Freya and her friend Payton, aged 11 and 10, are running an incredible nine 5km Parkruns over nine weeks, inspired by the idea of a cat’s “nine lives”. Together, the girls will cover a total distance close to a full marathon, all in aid of helping cats in need.
Both girls live in Bridlington and attend Martongate Primary School, where they are currently in Year 6. Their challenge began at their local Parkrun in Sewerby on 29 November, before travelling to seven different Parkrun locations over the following weeks, and finishing back at Sewerby this February.
Speaking about their challenge, the girls asked:“What number do you think when someone says cat?”
For Freya and Payton, the answer was simple – nine. Nine lives, nine Parkruns, and a big goal of raising £1,000 for Cats Protection. They are already past the halfway mark, with donations continuing to grow week by week.
All sponsorship money raised will go directly to Cats Protection, a charity that helps more cats than any other organisation in the UK. Cats Protection is also the voice of cats in society, speaking up for their protection and working towards a future where every cat is treated with kindness and respect.
Supporters are encouraged to come along and support Freya and Payton at their weekly Parkruns, or to donate via their JustGiving page. Any support, big or small, will help make a real difference to cats’ lives across the country.
