It was back to the 1920’s at a Bridlington community centre as local residents enjoyed an afternoon of fun,
entertainment and nostalgia.

New Pasture Lane Community Centre was the venue for the event which was suggested by local historian and Echo
writer Mike Wilson who brought his large collection of Herman Darweski
memorabilia to the event.
Mike had researched the history of famous composer Darewski and
told of his life and times as resident conductor at the Bridlington Spa Royal Hall in the 1920s.

Organisers Kate Batten and Abi Sturdy, alongmwith a team of volunteers,
explained: “Our 1920’smevent was inspired by local resident Mike Wilson who mentioned to us that it was
exactly 100 years since the Spa Royal Hall had played host to famous conductor and musician Herman
Darewski and his orchestra.

“We all dressed in style for the occasion and enjoyed an afternoon of dancing and eating sandwiches and
cakes. Mike also said a few words about his project and all that attended said they would had a great time.”
