On Saturday, 21 June, the Brightening Up Bridlington (BUB) volunteer litter-picking group took to the town’s streets in a dedicated effort to keep the seaside town free from litter and rubbish.
This year’s midsummer litter pick focussed on the Moorfield Car Park, Dukes Park, and Queensgate areas of Bridlington.
A representative from the group explained: “We are committed to cleaning up areas that are integral to the success of Bridlington Police’s three-year Clear Hold Build programme. We are currently in the building phase, working to create stronger, cleaner, and more cared-for spaces.”
The event saw an influx of new volunteers, including many young people, which was a heartening sight. Over 20 bags of litter were collected, along with an unexpected find—a scooter.
Looking ahead, the group plans to maintain the Clear Hold Build theme next month by swapping their litter pickers for brushes and paint rollers.

They will be focusing on re-staining public seating in Pembroke Gardens and South Cliff Gardens, in preparation for further long-term improvement projects in these green spaces.
The group encourages community members to join their cause. “If you see us about, feel free to give us a wave. If you’re interested in joining our efforts, come and chat—we’re always on the lookout for new volunteers. Our love for Bridlington drives us to make it cleaner and more inviting every month.”
Special thanks were extended to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Street Scene team for their support in collecting the overflowing pink bags of rubbish.
