Bridlington Market has been honoured with a prestigious national award at the Great British Market Awards 2025, held by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) in Birmingham recently.
The event celebrated the vital contributions of markets across the UK, emphasising their role in enhancing local communities, promoting tourism, and driving economic regeneration.
The award recognises Bridlington Market’s remarkable resurgence, now operated by a Market Cooperative that relies heavily on volunteer management.
Nearly 100% trader attendance underscores the market’s growing popularity, particularly among younger traders.
With secured government funding for various projects and events, the market has successfully attracted over 40,000 visitors with initiatives like an ice trail, significantly boosting footfall and supporting local businesses along the High Street.
The market’s vibrant Christmas two-day event, featuring a festive light switch-on, was a highlight of the season, fostering a sense of community among residents and visitors alike. In 2025, the Market Cooperative plans an enhanced series of food festivals to further bolster market events.
Angela Langton and Julie Boyes proudly accepted the award on behalf of the Bridlington market traders, highlighting the transformative management, innovation, and community spirit that have breathed new life into this historic market tradition.
Said Angela: “It was great honour to collect the award along with Julie – its certainly put the town back in the limelight.”
