Bridlington Local Community Lift (BLCL), launched earlier this year, needs additional volunteers to help meet growing demand for its medical transport service. The organisation provides essential door‑to‑door transport for residents who would otherwise struggle to reach appointments at hospitals in Bridlington, Hull, Malton, Scarborough and York, as well as local clinics.

The service has been very well received, but rising requests mean more volunteer drivers are urgently needed.
Geoff, who joined BLCL recently, said: “After two years of taking my late wife to hospitals across the region, I know how stressful and costly these journeys can be. For people without transport, it’s even harder. Volunteering has been a privilege — the people I meet are friendly, grateful, and often just happy to chat. If you can spare a morning or afternoon now and then, I’d encourage you to join.”
Another volunteer, Martin, became involved after seeing BLCL on Facebook. “I have free time after retiring and wanted to help people unable to help themselves. Sometimes we’re the only person they speak to that day. It’s incredibly rewarding to support people who genuinely appreciate the help.”
Passengers regularly praise the service, saying:
- “BLCL got me to hospital when no one else could.”
- “The drivers are kind, calm and make you feel safe.”
- “Door‑to‑door support makes all the difference.”
- “It’s cheaper than a taxi and far less stressful.”
- “Without BLCL, I would have missed my appointment.”
- “They go above and beyond—nothing is too much trouble.”
- “I’ve already recommended BLCL to everyone I know.”
If you have spare time and want to make a meaningful difference in your community, BLCL would love to hear from you.
