Bridlington is increasingly becoming the foodie place to visit after a BBC2 cookery programme put the town well and truly on the culinary map.
Andi Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts saw the presenter visiting the town and
highlighting the fishing industry as well as local restaurants.

The programme, which is a completely new series to the BBC, saw acclaimed chef Andi bring her culinary skills
to various locations around Bridlington including the harbour, the RNLI station, a visit to Beth Christlow
(pictured) at The Nut and Nettle on High Street in Old Town along with several other locations.
Beth has created what is now affectionately known as the Bridlington Tart, which is a delightful sweet treat that has been met with such praise that she now sells out
of the tasty treat in a matter
of minutes.

Filmed over a number of days last summer, the episode saw not only the
volunteers at Bridlington RNLI featured but also many other businesses around the town as well as
the Bridlington Sea Cadets, locals and holidaymakers enjoying the wonderful
fish inspired food caught locally and also the amazing atmosphere created at the event.
Andi explained after the shows were recorded: “The highlight from this series, is that I think it’s a real honour to travel the country and meet people who are doing such extraordinary work.

“I just feel that every town I have been to and every community that I have
engaged with, I have met people who are showing the best of themselves and
show us how we can live if we do really work hard and do it right.”
Beth Christlow, who is the proprietor of The Nutand Nettle vegan restaurant
along with her sister Katie in Bridlington Old Town, was featured cooking up a new creation. Beth, who featured in the show, said:
“Meeting and cooking with Andi was a such a privilege. We were so happy to shareour love for wild food and foraging for nettles on the show. We felt very grateful for the opportunity to offer an alternative perspective
on the food culture in Bridlington (championing modern Bridlington – as
Andi said).

And to the delight of Beth, the newly invented Bridlington Tart has now
become a real hit for the Nut and Nettle with freshly created batches selling out rapidly.
The delightful sweet treat is made up from pistachio, pumpkin seeds, lemon,
raspberry, canlendula, nettle, elderflower and thyme.

After sampling the cake – in the name of research of course…the Echo
Editor declared the treat as ‘delicious with a tongue tingling mix of eclectic
ingredients fusing together to make a memorable taste.’
Local fisherman and RNLI volunteer Richard Pockley was also interviewed by Andi.

He said:“This programme is not simply about the RNLI, it also illustrates the various food and drink businesses in the town.
“Andi spoke with me in relation to my shellfish business and what it means
to the town. It was brilliant that the BBC should showcase the town in a
good light, as Bridlington, like many other seaside towns, often doesn’t get the coverage it fully deserves.”
