A landmark building in Bridlington has been listed for sale.
The iconic property, located on Bridlington’s south side is now on the market for £600,000.
The Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club (RYYC) headquarters, situated on Windsor Crescent with views of the harbour, is being sold through Carrick Real Estate.
In addition, the RYYC has put forward a proposal to East Riding of Yorkshire Council to demolish its current premises in Blyth Park, Wilsthorpe, and construct a new clubhouse.
This proposal aims to move the RYYC’s main clubhouse from current base – designed to resemble an ocean liner, on Windsor Crescent to the new site at Blyth Park.
The stated reasons for this relocation includes the rising annual maintenance costs and a shift in harbour activities, with more members and visitors opting to stay with their boats rather than visit the yacht club.
According to the estate agent’s website, ‘the property encompasses three connected buildings – the primary yacht clubhouse and two Georgian terrace houses. Constructed in the early 19th century, this three-storey edifice boasts classic Georgian architectural features, characterised by its symmetrical façade, sash windows, and elegant proportions.’

‘The original Georgian elements have been preserved while adapting to the various needs of the yacht club, which include dining spaces, accommodation, and leisure areas.’
The current asking price is £600,000.
Behind the Headlines
In 1928, the RYYC took residence in the former coastguard station on West Street in Bridlington but were unable to secure its purchase.
Consequently, in 1938, they opted to buy the Ozone Hotel on Windsor Crescent. The exterior was refurbished to emulate an ‘ocean liner’ style, aligning with the building’s new function.

Notably, Lawrence of Arabia stayed at the Ozone Hotel, which now serves as the Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club, during the mid-1930s.
In 1997, the club marked its 150th anniversary, with His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, serving as the guest of honour and the club’s patron.
