Incident Response – Fraisthorpe Beach
“Bridlington Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked yesterday (4 February) following reports of containers and a suspected phosphorus flare that had washed up on Fraisthorpe Beach.
For public safety, the beach was closed with assistance from Humberside Police while we awaited the arrival of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). We’d like to thank members of the public for their patience and cooperation during this time.
Following a multi-agency assessment, the decision was made to remove the item from the beach. The incident was safely resolved today through the joint efforts of Humberside Police, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, and EOD.
A Bridlington Coastguard spokesperson said:
“Incidents like this highlight the importance of the public keeping a safe distance from unknown items along our coastline. We’d like to thank everyone for their cooperation while the beach was closed, which allowed emergency services to carry out their work safely and efficiently.”
Reminder to the public: If you discover any unknown containers, ordnance, or suspicious items along the coastline, please do not touch or approach them. Move away to a safe distance and contact the Coastguard via 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Thank you to all agencies involved for their continued professionalism and teamwork.”
