Marching up a mountain and back down again with a heavy backpack may not be most people’s idea of fun – but for Craig Leach it is an idea that will help raise funds for a local Bridlington and county veterans group.
On 6th July Craig will be tackling the legendry Fan Dance, the original SAS Test march, to raise vital funds for Militray Assistance Social Hub – (M.A.S.H).

Said Craig: “This 14-mile route up and over Pen Y Fan and back covering 2900 metres of elevation is going to be completed with a 35lb (16kg) Bergan plus food and 6 litres of water.”
M.A.S.H is an independent charity which has no paid roles and is run purely by volunteers. It provides activities and events that combat social isolation within the Armed Forces Community along with the provision of immediate crisis and long term support for those most vulnerable.

The first M.A.S.H group was set up in Bridlington after the demise of the Poppy Club following the closure of the British Legion’s Alderson House in early 2020.
The organisation now has a total of three hubs – Withernsea and Beverley – with another in the pipeline.
The local group now regularly meets at Bridlington Town Football Club and also holds many social events including trips and fundraisers.

Added Craig: “All funds raised for M.A.S.H go back out to local communities supporting Veterans, Serving personnel and their families with the the provision of activities and events to combat social isolation reducing the impact upon mental health and the provision of care support packages including heating and food.”
