One much-loved local business is marking a milestone few achieve. Eastfield Garden Centre, just outside Bridlington, is celebrating 50 years of growing with its community – and doing things just a little differently.

First opening on family farmland in 1976, Eastfield has remained a family-run business for three generations. Set between the rolling Yorkshire Wolds and the dramatic East Coast shoreline, the garden centre has always drawn inspiration from its surroundings – and from the people who shop there.

“This year is all about celebrating,” the team said as they announced their anniversary plans. “Fifty years of gardening, family and community. We can’t wait to share this milestone with everyone who has been part of our story.”

Over five decades, Eastfield has grown from a small rural enterprise into a destination in its own right. While plants remain at its heart, visitors now come for more than just compost and cuttings.

One of the largest outdoor living showrooms in the area showcases garden furniture, barbecues and accessories, helping customers make the most of their outdoor space.

Inside, the gift and homeware departments are packed with both well-known brands and distinctive suppliers, alongside an extensive range of greetings cards.

It’s a place where people often pop in for one thing and leave with something extra – whether it’s for a special occasion or a simple treat.
Plants, however, are still the main event. Many are sourced from Yorkshire growers, and the friendly, knowledgeable team are always on hand with advice. The spacious atrium and plantaria is filled with seasonal flowers, water features and gardening essentials, making it a popular stop whatever the weather. Indoors, carefully selected houseplants bring a splash of green to homes across the area.

Food has also become a major part of the Eastfield experience. The Fine Food Hall is a paradise for anyone who loves good ingredients, with shelves full of local and regional produce. From cheeses, oils, cooked meats and freshly baked rolls and pies to potatoes from the family farm and cakes from Eastfield’s own bakery, there’s a true taste of Yorkshire on offer. Visitors can also relax in the Autumn Bliss Coffee Bar or the Potting Shed Restaurant, both serving freshly prepared meals, light lunches and home-baked treats.

Seasonal events have helped shape Eastfield’s reputation, none more so than its Christmas Wonderland. Each winter, themed displays fill the garden centre, drawing visitors back year after year.
As Eastfield turns 50, the focus is firmly on celebrating with the people who helped make it what it is today. Plans are in place for special moments and events throughout the year, all centred around the same values the business began with: family, community and a love of growing things.

Half a century after those first plants were sold on farmland outside Bridlington, Eastfield Garden Centre is still rooted in the same place – and still growing alongside the community it serves.
