A new independent retail venture is preparing to open in Bridlington, with plans to create a vibrant new shopping destination for local makers, artists and small businesses.

The Hummingbird Collective is set to open on Prince Street, close to the seafront, in the unit most recently occupied by Original Factory Shop and formerly M&Co. The new venture will offer around 4,000 square feet of ground floor retail space, bringing together independent traders and established brands under one roof.
The project is being led by Nicola Hudson of Hummingbird Events and Angela Langton of Angela Bare, who say the aim is to provide an affordable and flexible platform for independent businesses to showcase and sell their work.

The store will feature products from a wide variety of independent makers alongside recognised names including Joe Browns. Organisers say the concept is designed to give smaller businesses access to high street retail space without the costs and pressures of running a full shop of their own.
Traders will be able to rent display areas suited to their products, typically the equivalent of a six-foot shelving unit, with flexible merchandising options and support available. Packages will start from as little as £10 per week, with options tailored to suit different budgets and levels of availability.

Nicola Hudson explained:
“We are getting super excited now that the spaces have been cleared inside and the workmen are finalising their jobs,” she said.
“The contracts are here and we are now about to start the shop fitting process in line with answering all the enquiries we have had to date.
“We will actually be able to take much more talent than we initially thought as the building just seems to keep growing as we find more and more space. It could well be a Tardis.”

She added that, with support from project partner Angela Langton from Angela Bare, the collective is looking forward to showcasing “lots of independent makers, creators, artists and small businesses”.
Those interested in space in the new store are invited to apply through the Hummingbird Events website.
