The Bridlington-based charity group that helps local veterans and their families has been shortlisted into the final three of the prestigious Soldering On Awards for 2023.
Locally based veterans Craig Leach and Martin Barmby travelled down to the House of Lords in London as finalists in the Family Value Category where Craig had to pitch the merits of the Bridlington Military Assistance Social Hub (MASH) to a gathered audience.
They rubbed shoulders with broadcaster Jeremy Vine and actress Vicky Michelle as well as high ranking military personnel and MPs.
The group was set up just three years ago in response to the closure of the Bridlington Veterans Centre which was part of the Royal British Legion’s Alderson House on South Marine Drive.
Since then MASH has gone from strength to strength under the guidance of Craig and his wife Michelle. The group has grown to create branches in Beverley and Withernsea.
All committees are manned by volunteers and veterans and together they provide regular meetings with a huge programme of activities for former military personnel and their families. – thus helping to reduce social isolation.
The group will find out the results on September 27th when they attend The Soldering On Awards which will be held in front of around 650 guests and celebrities at the Park Plaza in Westminster, London.
