A group of Bridlington friends have raised over £1000 for a dementia charity.
Diane Boardman and her close friends, Donna, Sam, Rosie, Donna, Mark, Andy and Liza joined together to undertake a midnight charity walk for Dementia UK last Saturday – 12th August.
Donna and Mark were inspired to do this walk as both their mothers had both been affected by Dementia, and the group were all too aware of how it affects thousands of people and their families.
A spokesperson for the walkers explained: “Diane wanted to come up with something unique, so the group decided to take part in a 15-mile overnight walk from Cayton Bay in Scarborough to Bridlington. With their hi-vis, torches, glowsticks, and a balloon on a stick, they set off in the dark.

“Sam, (Diane’s husband), drove alongside them in his car providing a safety barrier and playing motivational music such as “Walking on Sunshine,” “Don’t Stop Me Now,” and “I Would Walk 500 Miles.”
The walkers were supported by people beeping along the way, and Rosie’s mum and dad came out in their car at 2.am with bottles of water.

Through their hard work and dedication, the group has raised over £1000 for Dementia UK, and are still in the process of collecting cash donations.
“We all recognize that we aren’t the fittest, but we are proud of ourselves and each other for having done something good. Well done everyone.” Added the spokesperson.
