A new community-led transport initiative is set to improve access to healthcare for residents in Bridlington and surrounding villages.

Bridlington Local Community Lift (BLCL) has announced the launch of a volunteer driver scheme designed to help people attend essential medical appointments. The service has been developed in response to concerns that some residents have been missing vital healthcare visits due to a lack of suitable transport.
The scheme will operate as a community car service, with volunteer drivers using their own vehicles to provide lifts for those in need. It will complement existing services, including the ERYC Medibus, and aims to reduce barriers to accessing healthcare across the area.

Jane Evison of East Yorkshire Community Transport said:
“Access to transport remains a significant challenge for many people in East Yorkshire. Attending medical appointments is crucial, yet for some it can be difficult to arrange travel. This new service from BLCL will make a real difference, and it’s fantastic to see the strong support from local volunteers.”
Among those volunteers are Geof Traves and Colin Oliver, who have recently joined the scheme. They said:
“We’re pleased to be able to give something back to our community. By offering our time, we hope to help ensure that more people can attend their appointments and get the care they need.”

BLCL is now taking bookings for the service and encouraging anyone in need of transport to get in touch.
