The hugely popular bonfire held in the grounds of the Ship Inn at Sewerby has been cancelled.

Over the past few years the event has raised over £60,000 for many local charities.

Said Charlie Kilburn from the pub: “We have respectfully taken the decision to end our Charity Bonfire Night Extravaganza.”

Charlie had looked into the possibility of hiring a drone light show company to create a similar event, but found the cost far too prohibitive.

“Whilst we are saddened to do so, we are proud to have supported so many charities and raised over £60,000 over the years with the help of you, our local community and from people far and wide.

“Thank you to our staff over the years, our band of volunteer’s, Ryan at The Property Shop and to ERYC and Sewerby Hall for their hard work and efforts.”

Charlie urged locals to support the Bridlington Rugby Club and other local organised events and to celebrate Bonfire Night safely

Added Charlie: “Thank you all once again for your support over the years, we have certainly had some great nights and will miss organising the event.”
