Bridlington Town 2

Grimsby Borough 2

Bridlington Town drew their first home match of the 2023/24 campaign against south of the Humber club Grimsby Borough.

Despite early chances for the Seasiders, it was the visitors that grabbed control of the match with two early goals from Sam Topliss (13 mins) and Reece York (26 mins).

Bridlington pulled a goal back with a nice finish from Jake Martindale on 31 minutes to leave the first half standing at 2-1 to Grimsby.

In the second half Grimsby’s Caine Winfarrah was shown a second yellow card followed by a red card and with the opposition down to ten men, this seeemd to give the Seasiders a bit more determination to bring the score back level.

With more open play from Town, chances were created and Lewis Dennison had a powerful shot on goal, excellently saved by the Grimsby keeper.

Bridlington were putting the visitors under a lot of pressure but it looked like they wouldn’t get the equaliser despite a determined onslaught.

Disaster then struck for the Seasiders when on 93 minutes they were reduced to 10 men after sub Max Ezard was shown a second yellow card.

With the game deep into stoppage time and the seconds ticking away, Bridlington got their well deserved equaliser when a flicked on ball found substitute Glen Sani who swept the ball past the Grimsby keeper Liam Higton.

A tough opener at home for Town, but they held their nerve to chisel out a well deserved point.
