Tough game at Keighley as they bring an end to Bridlington’s winning streak

Bridlington RUFC’s hopes of claiming three wins on the bounce were ended by a 17–5 defeat away at Keighley in a hard-fought game played in horrendous conditions.

Both sides began looking for an opening, but much of the early play was confined to the middle of the park. It took nearly 30 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, with Finn Meegan sending a penalty through the uprights after Bridlington were penalised for a high tackle.

Not long afterwards, the hosts scored the first try of the game. Following a sustained spell of pressure close to the line, Ed Keighley crashed over, with Meegan adding the conversion.

Bridlington responded after earning a scrum following a knock-on by the home side. Several phases of play close to the line eventually saw debutant Blake Christie touch down for his first try for the club. Josh Stanyon was unable to convert, leaving the visitors trailing 10–5.

On the stroke of half-time, the hosts extended their advantage when Meegan broke through the defence and offloaded to Ryan Gibson, who crossed for their second try. Meegan converted to give the home side a 17–5 lead at the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, with both sides enjoying spells of possession and penalties frequently interrupting play. The blue and golds had opportunities but were unable to turn them into points.

In the final 10 minutes, Christie was sent to the sin bin for a dangerous tackle. With neither side able to add to the score in the second half, the hosts secured a 17–5 victory, bringing Bridlington’s winning run to an end.
