“At around 11.30pm, it was reported that a car collided with the front of a shop on St John Street, before allegedly making off from the scene in the vehicle. The collision caused extensive damage to the shop front.

“Thankfully, no one is believed to have been injured.

“Officers swiftly attended and, following CCTV enquiries, a car believed to be involved has been located nearby.

“We are appealing for anyone with information that may assist our enquiries to please call us on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 25*98418.”

In a social media post a spokesperson for the Excellent Cafe said:

“Thank you to everyone concerned. We are working very hard today to get everything sorted and will be back open tomorrow as business as usual. Hope to see all our lovely customers. The excellent cafe team.”
