The charity has been forced to close
its premises to the public indefinitely
while they focus on containing the
outbreak and caring for the animals.
With around 300 cats in their care,
the charity has already spent over
£12,000 on veterinary bills to vaccinate
as many as possible.
So far, over 120 cats, including kittens as young as four weeks, have been vaccinated. To prevent further spread of the virus, the rescue has had to destroy all bedding, feeding bowls, blankets and other contaminated items, leaving them in desperate need of replacements.
Volunteers have been working
tirelessly to put safety measures in place, using an estimated 1,500 foot covers each day between just three volunteersas part of strict biosecurity efforts.
Filey Cat Rescue is appealing to the
public for donations of new bedding,
cat food and financial support to help
cover vaccination costs and care for the cats in their Gristhorpe based centre.
“The wonderful support that we have
received has helped us all here so much. I want to say a huge, huge thank you to everyone that’s been helping us. It’s very, very upsetting, but we will carry on and try and save every cat we have here.
“We desperately need your help, and
we will be truly grateful for anything
we receive.” said Tina Lewis, who runs
the centre.
