When Bridlington Coastal Voices choir member Lisa Scott found out that her cancer treatment would cause hair loss, she decided to take action.
After shaving any remaining hair completely off, Lisa felt she was alone.
Fellow choir members Pippa Neild and Jane Tyler decided to go out of their way to support her, and with the help of Ruth Hunt from ‘Hair Design By Ruth’ in Bridlington, Pippa and Jane came away with very short new hairstyles to match Lisa’s.
A spokesperson for Coastal Voices said: “When the ladies removed their hair, it then prompted the creation of a Breast Cancer fundraising page.
“We are extremely proud to say that over £1500 has already been raised. The funds raised are in aid of ‘Breast Cancer Now’, which is a research and support charity.”
Breast Cancer Now is currently funding 80 cutting-edge research projects aiming to discover how to tackle secondary breast cancer, develop better treatments, prevent and diagnose breast cancer early, and improve people’s quality of life.
They also provide support services, trusted health information, and specialist nurses. In addition, they are campaigning for the best possible treatments, services, and care for anyone affected by breast cancer.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with around 55,000 women and 400 men diagnosed every year.
“We are so proud of these ladies, who have become friends by being part of our Coastal Voices choir, even adding to the fundraising with their personal donations,” said a spokesperson for Coastal Voices.
