Bridlington RNLI have received a generous donation from Bridlington Rotary Club to help the lifeboat station to continue to provide education for the local community.
Bridlington Lifeboat Chairman, Dave Garnett and Bridlington Rotary Club President Paul Walker received the cheque for £3200. The money will be used to create a virtual tour of Bridlington Lifeboat Station to enable people that would usually visit the station to learn about the lifeboats and the equipment that the crew use.
Before the coronavirus pandemic, volunteers for Bridlington RNLI would welcome schools and community groups to the station and provide workshops to educate visitors about the lifeboat station and give advice on how to enjoy the coast safely. Sadly, these visits have been suspended to ensure the lifeboat station remains a safe place for the crew to operate. The new virtual tour will enable the Lifeboat Visits team to continue their work by bringing the lifeboat station to the classroom.
Lifeboat Visits Officer, Dave Howker said: ‘Having a resource like this to bring into classrooms is going to be a very useful tool in educating the local schools and groups about what we do, and how to stay safe along the coast. We’re incredibly grateful for the Rotary Club’s donation as it will fund the shoot and also provide us with a laptop to use whilst we work within the community.”
