A popular farm cafe and produce shop is re-opening today ( September 23) after being forced to close after an avian flu outbreak nearby.
Marton Manor Farm Shop and Tea Rooms, which is located just outside Sewerby on the Flamborough Road, had been closed for almost three weeks, but is set to reopen and welcome regular and new customers.
Jane Waind, who runs the business with her daughter Ellie Binsley, was delighted to be reopening and welcoming vistors back after a closure order from DEFRA – despite the businesses being several hundred metres away from the free range chickens.
“Today we re-open the farm shop and tea rooms after been closed for nearly 3 weeks because of our free range chickens catching Avian influenza (bird flu).
“It was with great sadness that all our 40,000 chickens had to be culled. Therefore we won’t be selling our own free range eggs anymore but will be buying from Browns Eggs at Lebberston which will be fresh free range eggs.”

Jane and Ellie, along with their staff have all receievd many messages of support during the closure, which included the cafe, farm shop and childrens play area.

Added Jane: “Thank you for your understanding in the time we had to be closed because of the restrictions in place. Also a massive thank you to everyone who messaged us with kind supportive messages they really were much appreciated
We look forward to welcoming everyone back.”
