A new youth theatre and events group, Activents, is preparing for its first public performance this autumn after identifying a gap for younger children wanting to get into drama, dance and singing.

The group was set up by two friends, Katy Maynard and Becky Arundel, who met performing together at the Spotlight Theatre in Bridlington. They noticed there was nowhere for children under 14 to get involved, since Spotlight only takes members from that age upwards. With their combined experience in drama, dance and singing, the pair set up a club to fill the gap, helping younger children build confidence and skills ahead of joining Spotlight.
Activents now has around ten members, aged eight and up, who come along to have fun while learning the ropes of theatre, not just performing, but skills behind the scenes too, including directing, sound and lighting.

The group’s first show, a variety musical, will see members performing solo numbers and group routines, drawing on favourites including Annie and Matilda. Money raised will go towards licensing and scripts for future productions.
Two performances are planned at Spotlight Theatre: an evening show on Friday 24th October at 7.30pm, and a matinee on Sunday 25th October at 2.30pm. Tickets will be available through the Bridlington Spa and Spotlight Theatre websites.

Organisers are hoping for a good turnout of friends and family and that the shows will give the children a taste of performing on a real working stage.
