Householders are being urged to be vigilant after scam TV engineers have been targeting residents in the area.
This comes after a large fire at the Bilsdale mast left thousands unable to gain a television signal through their aerials.
It has affected people in the Hunmanby, Filey and some East Yorkshire village areas since August 10.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said:
“We’ve been made aware that fraudsters are posing as TV engineers and offering to help local residents retune their TV’s following the Bilsdale mast fire for a fee of £200.
“If anyone knocks on your door to offer this service, do not let them into your home and do not give them any money.”
Arqiva, the company which owns the Bilsdale mast, have been offering an appointment service to help everyone access TV if their service has been affected.
The spokesman added:
“If you make an appointment with Arqiva you will receive a unique reference number which the engineer visiting your home at the arranged time will be able to check with you.
“Engineers will only be attending homes after making an appointment and will be wearing identification. Should anyone approach you at home with no appointment, do not let them into your home and call the police on 101 if you are concerned.
“Please share this with friends, family and networks who may not use social media and help us to keep everyone safe from these scammers.”
A helpline has been set up to support those still without TV signal following the fire at the Bilsdale mast in North Yorkshire last month.
