Two Bridlington friends have had an hair-raising experience….but they have also raised vital funds for charity. So far Ian Ellis and Mike Rubery have raised around £1,000 for the York Against Cancer charity after having their heads shaved.
The idea came after Ian, who has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer, spotted the York Against cancer signs at the mobile treatment centre he was attending.
Said Ian: “The charity had helped to fund a mobile treatment unit at Bridlington Hospital and I was so impressed by the facility, the kindness of the staff towards me and what they were doing to help me and others with cancer.”
“If our donation helps make a small difference that is great.” Added Ian who also is the Press Officer for the Royal Naval Association (RNA). Ian’s friend, Royal Navy veteran Mike Rubery joined Ian in having his head shaved outside Richie’s Cafe Bar with friends and passers-by watching and cheering on the unusual event.
Said Mike: “If you’re feeling generous and would like to contribute, you can make a donation to help support this worthy cause. This is to keep things straightforward and ensure that more funds go directly to the charity.” added Mike.
Helping with the cutting of Ian and Mike’s hair was Andrew ‘Max’Wall, Secretary of Bridlington (RNA).
To sponsor please call Mike on 07722 362949. He is collecting donations on behalf of both himself and Ian, avoiding any online fees.
