A group of Bridlington
friends have raised tens
of thousands of pounds
for charity during 2024.
After previously raising
£12,755 in 2023, the lads
were eager to better that
total and hit yet another
personal best year.
The campaign started in
March when they hosted
the first of what would be
three darts tournaments
throughout the year.
Group spokesman
Ryan Wilson, explained:
“Following the darts was
our annual Movember
Cup, a 6-a-side football
tournament taking place
at Bridlington CYP in
August, shortly followed by
darts night number two, a
doubles tournament taking
place at The Brunswick
Hotel.
“The final of our pre-
November activities was a
father and son team – Will
and Tom Coates – who tookpart in the Great North Run that helped contribute
over £1,000 to our total.
“Cory Walkington and
I were fortunate enough
to be invited on behalf of
Movember to feature on
well known podcast, The
Overlap, where we had the
great pleasure of meeting
footballing legends Ian
Wright, Jamie Carragher,
Shaun Wright-Phillips
and Aaron Lennon, who
bravely shared his story of
personal struggles in a very
moving episode,”
“November 1st soon came
around and the shaving
foam and razors were at
the ready! Throughout the
month we began to Mo
and Move, growing some
questionable moustaches
whilst completing some
impressive challenges,
starting with Adam,
Cammy, Eugene, Frankie
and Harry competing
the National Three Peaks
in under 24 hours, the
following weekend we
had Arnie’s Whitby to
Bridlington run, with our
second Pool tournament
‘Mo Pool’ taking place.”
“Next up was Ash’s
sunrise to sunset run
which coincided with
Matty running his first
ever marathon, week 4
we had our final darts
night of the year at Vic
Club Flamborough, Sam
ran from Scarborough
to Bridlington as well as
Carl, Joey, Josh, Matty,
Matty & Ross taking part
in Movembers MoRunning
event in York.”
“The month concluded
with a jaw-dropping
117km run from Joe and
Mitch, who alongside
friends and family set off
from Elland Road home of
Leeds United football club
Friday at 12, running all
the way to home soil and
finishing at Bridlington Spa
in under 24 hours, raising
an incredible £4,800 for Movember through their inspiring efforts.
“There are plenty more
commendable efforts
that deserve a mention,
however I would be here
all day if I were to cover
each and everyone of the
amazing 32 lads efforts
made to help the team raise
a huge £22,847 for all our
dads, brothers and mates
who are facing their own
battles.
“As a team we have
now raised over £50,000,
these donations will
help Movember fund
groundbreaking projects
and research to ensure men
live happier and healthier
lives.
“We want to say a massive
thank you to everyone who’s
supported this team not
only this year but for any or
all of the last 5, whether it
be a donation, sponsorship
from a business, attending
one of our events, words
of encouragement or even
just following us with pride
on our journey…it means
the world to us all.” added
Ryan.
