A Bridlington resident
has celebrated her 100th
birthday with flowers,
birthday cake and a card
congratulating her on
her birthday from King
Charles III.
Lillie Richards, who
celebrated her 100th birthday
on 12 May, was born in
Bridlington and has lived in
the town all her life.
As a young lady she worked
at a childrens orphanage on
South Back Lane and then was
a stay-at-home mum after she
had children – Ann and Keith
to her late husband Stephen
who was an ambulanceman.
Said her daughter Ann:
“When my younger brother
started school mum became
a dinner lady at Burlington
School and was there for 20
years until she retired.
“During all this time mum
was also caring for her own
elderly mum, visiting twice
a day, doing her shopping,
housework etc.
After her mum died she
still didn’t rest or make time
for herself, she helped 2 of her
elderly neighbours, visiting
them daily and generally
making sure they were
alright.”
Lillie is now a resident
at Foresters Lodge in
Bridlington.
Just before her husband
Stephen passed away, they
celebrated their 72nd
wedding anniversary and
Lillie proudly keeps a
collection of cards from
Queen Elizabeth.
Her daughter Ann Richards
explained: “The highlight of
mums 100th birthday was
receiving a card from King
Charles.
Lillie has three
grandchildren, Leanne,
Sophie and Ellie, and six
great- grandchildren; Rory,
Ivy, Hattie, Polly, Maria and
Hunter.
“The staff at Foresters
Lodge have been absolutely
wonderful and mum couldn’t
thank them enough for
making her birthday so
special.
“She told me they
deserved recognition for
what they do and especially
what they did for her on her
birthday. They decorated
the room with bunting and
banners, they gave her a tiara,
sash and badge to wear. She
received three cards signed
by all the staff. She also had
a special cake and also got a
beautiful bouquet of flowers.”
