At a recent meeting of the Bridlington Health Forum Public Meeting on 10th April, Andy Kingdom the ERYC Director of Public Health, gave a presentation illustrating the impact of health inequalities on the Bridlington population.

This showed that there is a difference of nearly 10 years life expectancy for males in parts of Bridlington compared with that of some other areas of the East Riding. There are seven years differences for women.
He went on to identify key factors that make this even more difficult for some of our community including the fact that 65% of hospital appointments are outside of Bridlington and a lack of public transport to access distant health facilities.

Mr Kingdom said: “We’ve been looking at it quite seriously recently and we have found that the inequalities are growing, they’re large and they’re serious.
“In terms of length of life, quality of life and the amount of people with long term health conditions, Bridlington has got the worst levels in all of the East Riding unfortunately. So this is a wake up call to do something about it.”

You can watch a recording of the meeting on the Bridlington Health Forum Facebook pages.
