Two East Yorkshire pubs have been recognised among the best in the UK after being included in a prestigious new guide compiled by The Telegraph.

The newspaper’s latest list features more than 600 pubs across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, celebrating venues that stand out for their character, hospitality, history and quality of beer.
Among those selected are The Old Ship Inn on St John Street in Bridlington and The Old Star at Kilham

The Old Ship Inn has earned praise from visitors for its welcoming atmosphere and excellent range of cask ales. One recent reviewer described the town centre pub as a “hidden gem” offering a great variety of well-kept cask ales, helping secure its place in the national guide.
Meanwhile, The Old Star at Kilham was recognised as a traditional country pub serving real ales alongside freshly prepared food in a warm and welcoming setting.

The Telegraph’s recommendations span cosy countryside inns, bustling city centre pubs and historic hostelries suitable for solo drinkers, groups of friends and families alike.
A panel of six experts assessed venues on factors including atmosphere, friendliness, cosiness, sense of place and the quality of beer, with particular emphasis placed on well-kept cask ale.

The guide notes that relatively few micropubs were included despite often serving excellent beer, as many were considered to lack the ambience and history needed to make the final selection. Likewise, only a small number of gastropubs featured, with eligibility depending on whether customers could comfortably enjoy a drink without ordering food.
