Today, 4th March, there is a service at Westminster Abbey in London to mark the official 200th anniversary of the RNLI.

This is an opportunity for members of the RNLI family, to celebrate the wonderful communities who have served this great institution.

The RNLI will commemorate those who have served, those we have been saved and those who that have been sadly lost, and look to the future of the next 200 years of lifesaving.

On this day, 200 years ago, Sir William Hillary’s vision for a service dedicated to saving lives at sea became a reality in Bishopsgate’s London Tavern on 4 March, 1824.

In our area Bridlington and Flamborough RNLI have been an integral part of our communities for two centuries and beyond.

In a forthcoming print edition of the Bridlington’s community newspaper The Echo, there will be a feature about the fantastic work the organisation undertakes to help those who need help at sea.
