Working hard and healthy living is the recipe for a long and fulfilling life according to a Bridlington resident who has celebrated her 104th birthday.

Anne Cormack moved to Bridlington in 1963 from Pontefract, and is now resident in Mallard Court on Avocet Way in the town.

Anne was born on 11 December, 1918 – just a month after World War One had ended.
Her parents were farmers and she was the youngest of seven children which consisted of five boys and two girls.
Anne served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), which was the women’s branch of the British Army during the Second World War.

“Life was quite unpredictable but strong friendships and bonds formed and we supported each other through the course of the war and beyond – we all did our job and made lots of friends.” explained Anne.

“I also learned to drive with the ATS at Camberley House – the same place that Queen Elizabeth II had also learned to drive.” she added.
Anne moved to Bridlington in 1963 with her daughter Caroline and she has three granddaughters and four great grandsons. When the Echo asked Anne the secret of reaching her 104th Birthday she commented:

“I have always had a healthy lifestyle and have always tried to keep busy with hard work and healthy living.”
Anne, along with her family also enjoyed a special party in the Vintage Tearoom within the Mallard Court where they enjoyed a lovely buffet and a special birthday cake provided by Head Chef Gill and the Mallard Court hospitality team.

Dianne Peters, General Manager of Barchester Mallard Court added: “We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches this amazing milestone. Anne is such a popular resident who always has an interesting tale to tell, and we look forward to hearing many more from her.
