Large amounts of litter and rubbish were left strewn across Bridlington South Beach last night following one of the resort’s busiest bank holiday weekends.

Local resident Tom Fynn was out for an evening walk when he spotted waste scattered across the sand, including food packaging and discarded items left behind after the day’s crowds had gone home.
Tom said: “I spoke to a lady called Jean and we called in at Richie’s Cafe Bar and explained the situation. They kindly gave us a pack of bin bags and we started to clean part of the beach.”

He added that other people soon stepped in to help. “Thankfully there were other families and particularly two youngsters who came to help and we managed to get the bulk of the litter into bin bags which we left near the council bins for collection.”

Bridlington had welcomed tens of thousands of visitors over the bank holiday. While most disposed of waste responsibly, a small minority left behind rubbish, creating an eyesore and posing risks to marine life and bathing waters.
