Hilderthorpe school pupils, staff and parents said a fond farewell to a lunchtime supervisor who has worked at the school for almost 37 years.
Wendy Sunley has been at the Shaftesbury Road school since October 1985.
Over the years there have been many changes and Wendy has seen thousands of pupils start and finish their primary education and also a complete new build of the school on the site.
In a special ceremony on the school field during the last day of term, Hilderthorpe School headteacher Sarah Hall paid tribute to Mrs Sunley.
“I have it on good authority that Mrs Sunley’s favourite thing to do at lunchtime with the children was to skip from one end of the playground to the other – without falling over.- which really impressed the staff.”
“What can we say about Mrs Sunley – she is kind, caring, friendly and always willing to help. So much so that she went on residential with the children to cook for them during the stay.”
“Mrs Sunley is the glue that holds everything together when she is here.”
“As a school we are very sad to be saying goodbye to you but we wish you lots of happiness in your new chapter.”
Wendy will be spending more time with her husband Clive and will be hiring a motorhome and planning a holiday for later in the year.
