A major investment in supported housing has recently been completed at Stepney Court and Stepney Rise, two neighbouring residential buildings in Bridlington, helping to meet growing local need while improving the quality of accommodation for residents.

An open day held recently by Priory Group marked the successful completion of the project, giving partners and guests the opportunity to view the refurbished homes and celebrate a positive outcome for the Bridlington community.
Historically, Stepney Court has provided specialist supported housing, offering ten self‑contained apartments with on‑site care delivered by Eden Futures. Stepney Rise, by contrast, operated as general needs housing, with no formal care or support services provided.

Recognising the demand for more specialist supported accommodation in the area, a proposal was brought forward around 18 months ago to reconfigure Stepney Rise to meet this need. The plans outlined local demand for increased specialist supported housing in Bridlington.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Accommodation Team has worked closely with Housing Services and the Bridlington Community Wellbeing Team to support the residents involved in the transformation, with additional community support offered to minimise disruption.
Both buildings required significant modernisation and owner Urban Wave invested around £450,000 to refurbish the properties. As part of the redevelopment, the schemes were leased to a not‑for‑profit registered provider, Care Housing Association, ensuring strong governance and a robust regulatory framework.

The project has increased local specialist supported housing provision by nine additional homes, while maintaining continuity of care for existing residents at Stepney Court. Delivered through close partnership working across council teams and external partners, eight of the nine new flats were occupied within three weeks of opening.
Councillor Jonathan Owen, cabinet member for adults, health and Care at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: ‘’This project demonstrates what can be achieved through strong partnership working and a shared commitment to meeting local need. The refurbished homes are of a high standard and will make a real difference to residents who rely on good‑quality supported accommodation to live independently and safely.”
A tenant said: ‘’I like living here, I feel I can be more myself. I have more freedom and support to express myself, to be creative and help others.’’

Claire Judkins, head of development for Care Housing Association, said: “The newly refurbished site is a testament to the hard work of everyone involved. This development highlights how collaboration between the local authority, support providers, the housing provider, and the developer can create a truly positive impact. Care Housing are proud to help bring this much-needed specialist housing to the local community.”
David Whittock from Urban Wave Ltd, said: “Urban Wave Ltd is proud to have supported this important redevelopment in Bridlington. By working closely with the council, care providers and housing partners, we have helped deliver high quality supported homes that provide residents with greater independence, security and wellbeing. We are delighted to see the positive impact the scheme is already having within the local community.”
