A family have completed a daring 10,000 ft. parachute jump in memory of a Bridlington teenage who died last year.

Chelsea Blue Mooney sadly died in April last year – aged just 17 – after suffering mental health problems.

Chelsea Blue’s dad, Steve Blackford, has been co-ordinating a series of events to raise money in her memory, with proceeds going to organisations that she loved in her home town.

Steve set up a Just Giving page with a target of £15,000, ahead of a series of family fundraising events. That has already passed the £14,000 mark.

Steve, his daughter Stevie and Chelsea’s sister aged16, Elizabeth ‘Lizzy’ Blackford (Steve’s sister and Chelsea’s auntie, aged 17) and Laura Tanner (Chelsea’s auntie, aged 27) took to the skies over Bridlington last Sunday (3 April) to raise further funds for the appeal.

Despite the event being cancelled several times due to unsuitable weather conditions, the intrepid parachutists finally got their day in the sky and completed the much anticipated skydive.

Steve explained: “It was very cold up there, but we did it.

“There’s no words to describe how so,so proud I am of the girls jumping – it was just amazing.

“I’m still lost in mixed emotions and just can’t believe it was all in Chelsea Blue’s memory when really she should of been here to do it.

“I know she was up there with us in the clouds and all the way down to make sure we all landed safely.

“We just can’t thank everyone enough –
seeing all the faces at the skydive, having so many messages and kind words of support. Just wow.

“There really are some lovely people out there –
Thank you.”

Steve thinks when all the money is collected that the target will be met.

Funds raised will be distributed to local groups and clubs that Chelsea Blue was a member of.
