Two talented youngsters had a batting performance to remember recently after they put on a huge 171 run partnership…against a senior team.

Bridlington 3rd’s had a fantastic result against Staxton 2nds in the Scarborough Beckett League Division 4 – thanks to two of their youngest players.
Josh Harvey and Chris Leeson were batting for Bridlington against Staxton and put on a 171 run opening partnership as Bridlington chased down Staxton’s 194-4 with 11.2 overs to spare in the 40 over game.

Both batters smashed their previous personal best scores, Leeson, aged 16, finished the match with a fine 73 not out with 10 fours and 2 sixes whilst 14-year-old Harvey hit a fantastic maiden century off just 82 balls.
He was run out as he continued until just before the end of the game for 103 which included 11 fours and 7 sixes.

Brid 3rd’s captain Andy Leeson said: “I couldn’t be more proud of the pair, it was brilliant to watch. We’ve a few young talented players who are now too old for the juniors and have had to adapt to senior cricket pretty quickly. They all played their part last season with a few runs and wickets but no-one really produced such an eye catching performance”
“I gave them a challenge this season, to get their first 50 in the adult league – That’s now been completely blown out of the water – and it’s only taken 2 games. To be fair, Josh only opened the batting because the lad who was down to open had to wait for his order of cheesy chips…!!! After that performance I’ll have to consider opening with Chris and Josh more often.”

Simon Leeson, playing on the main pitch for Brid 2nd’s, said “We got tired of throwing the ball back. I kept looking over and both lads were hitting the ball hard. In the end I think I was watching their game more than concentrating on ours.”

Harvey and Leeson both attend Headlands School where Harvey plays for the Year 9 team. He is also captain of Bridlington Cricket Club’s under 15’s team, while Leeson now plays for Bridlington 3rd’s and also for Grindale’s evening league team.
